TV: X Fix -X Factor

The X Factor has come and gone yet again and finished last night on ITV with 18 year old Joe McElderry becoming the sixth series winner. He was up against my favourite Olly Murs who in my eyes should have one. This is my rant on how i know it wasn't really a 'fix' per say that Joe won, however it just seemed to me that the general public and from the trending topics of twitter after the announcement was made Joe had won, it was clear there was a bit of bitter disappointment that Olly didn't win.

Of course twitters trending topics is enough for me to use that as a reliable source and my own personal liking to Olly and i am not even that much of a big X Factor fan. I blame friends for talking about it to much and making me want to see what all the fuss is about.

All in all this was a pretty stupid series as i am sure all the ones before it have been. The whole Jedward thing was ridiculous, Louis Walsh's comments on this series were about as delusional as it gets, Simon Cowell was playing up the the character the public love and hate every second his face was on camera, Cheryl Cole was about as honest and judgemental as pinocchio mixed with Nick Griffin and who can forget the boring Dannii Minogue that may have well had just sat there and keept her mouth shut and posed topless, she is about as interesting to listen to as toddler speaking jiberesh you may as well just smile and laugh at her.

Anyway rant over it just gets to me how this show can still spiral in to great popularity every year and even suck me in when its quite clearly not the greatest tv going but the money Simon Cowell makes from the show speaks for itself so i am obviously talking rubbish...

Money: Dubai

This was meant to be completed a while ago but busy work schedule and life annoyances have delayed my personal opinion of the dusty fairy tale land that is Dubai.

As many of you will know by now, the United Arab Emirates wonderful destination of Dubai has come in to some fairly heated news lately about its financial issues it currently has, or should i say has always had...

Now to the point, my general view on this matter is quite simply 'its about time' i absolutely loathe the place and i have never been and know i never want to. Its a glorified desert nowhere land that billionaires and idiots go to invest or show off their wealth, or where Dubai itself feels the need to outdo the next tallest building every month or embark on stupid 'build an artificial island in the sea' projects for no justifiable good reason whatsoever.

These worries sent the financial market in to a bit of a panic the last few weeks and if it wasn't bad enough with all the global economic crap that has been happening this year, it was great that Dubai contributed a bit and got itself yet again in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons. I know this affects normal people like me in the UK as well as other places and its not great news to boast about another countries misfortunes. It is time that this greediness and stupidity of money being spent on silly project like the many going on in Dubai stop.

News: Junk Skull

As you may have noticed we have had bit of as design make over and page layout re-argumentation, I was finding the old layout increasingly boring and restricted which to be honest i find all the blogspot themes to be. I have no idea how to create a custom theme so the one we are now using was the next best thing.

I like it, it means text is slightly more spread out and i can display images bigger which is never a bad thing, one thing to note though is i have noticed depending on what screen resolution you have some things may display differently which is bit of a bummer but not much i can do.

Music: Top 10 Albums of 2009

I posted this a few days ago but never got round to actually writing anything for it, so here goes. Its pretty self explanatory as you can see below is a personal representation of my top 10 albums of this year.

I was actually originally asked to do this through twitter for discosalt who i have written some reviews for in the past. This was actually quite rewarding to do as it gave me a chance to look back on the years music which is always fun, but i actually found this easier than i first thought. The more i got deeper in to compiling the list down to ten from around fifteen or so it was clear to see the ones that were destined for their rightful place in the top ten list. My number one spot quite deservedly going to Grizzly Bear's - Veckatimest album.

The list of course is personal choice and is sure to not set everyone's musical taste buds alight, however i would urge you to pick one of the ten albums at random to give a listen and see what you think.

1. Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest
2. Arctic Monkeys - Humbug
3. Franz Ferdinand –Tonight
4. Fisherspooner – Entertainment
5. Bombay Bicycle Club - I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose
6. Florence + the Machine - Two lungs
7. Doves – Kingdom Of Rust
8. Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum
9. Air - Love 2
10. Brakes – Touchdown

Music: Girls - Album Review

Not knowing much about this duo beforehand I was quite intrigued as to who the hell these two guys actually where and then realising there was no girls in the band came as a slight disappointment as there sound is so sexy and relaxing a matching duo of girls would have gone down nicely.

Not to worry though the debut LP from girls the cleverly titled album is more than a simple name and some pretty white background with fancy photos for album art. As described all ready from other reviews the album has this certain Californian vibe and feel good factor about it, never visiting California this certainly makes me want to hang out, get high and feel bad for breaking girls hearts whilst listening to all the songs on the record in the great governed state that Arnold Schwarzenegger controls.

The sound is simple but effective and has a buddy holly / beach boys similar noise you might recognise. Stand out tracks have to be Laura and Morning Light which is so unlike anything else on the album it makes it stand out even more and has this certain atmospheric sound that makes you think its really important and meaningful, which off course I am sure is the intention.

The songs are mostly tales of redemption and past experiences with lovers etc that is nice and rosy and if you pay to much attention could make you sad but on the whole its nothing to get to downhearted about. Lust For Life the opening track is a great example of Girls saying yeah I wish I had blah blah blah but life goes on. Great things will come to you Girls I can feel it the fake Californian sun I long for so much.

Movies: Up

Pixar/Disney's latest animation creation Up has been out now for around two weeks and was actually out in America a long time ago. Back in May when i was in NY it was just getting its first previews, none the less i thought id give it a small mention and review as i finally got to see it.

The film in centralized around one grumpy old man's dream to visit the place he has lusted over for years since he was a small boy after his childhood hero and idol, an Indiana Jones type character comes back from there brining with him this amazing unseen before creature. The plot thickens and The old man Carl Fredricksen has more than his fair share of adventure with a certain unwanted guest along with others and. The main reason for his trip as we learn early on is also the promise he made to his wife that they would visit this place. I know thats slightly vague but i really don't wanna give away to much because i feel the film is so brilliantly executed, its one of those go see it without reading to much about it otherwise i personally think it will ruin it. Basically check the film out for your self.

What i will say though is this is a great film for all ages, as per usual with all Pixar films the comedy is brilliant and the adventure and plot well thought out as well as the animation once again looking even more and more impressive than the last Pixar film. Kids will love this as will the grown up's and just for the sheer lovely heartwarming story that is the main point to the film its a must watch.
